If you want to point a domain that you have to some other domain or subdomain, a good way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain name being forwarded loses all of its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it's redirected to. This way, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be redirected to the website which you have created, but it'll also be displayed in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all the targeted traffic from different subdomains to their main domain name, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain because this kind of a record set up for the main domain renders it impossible to use email addresses.
CNAME Records in Cloud Website Hosting
Setting up a CNAME record with our Linux cloud website hosting packages is very easy. Our in-house built Hepsia CP has a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain addresses, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in only a few basic steps. You will find a video tutorial in the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature offers you many possibilities - if you build a company site on our end, for instance, the employees can use their e-mails with the company domain, not with the address of our mail server. If you want to set up a site through a different company which offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, in case you have a web-based store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you can set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and forward it to the main domain name, so all your customers will be forwarded to a secure URL.
